Cantharis decipiens
Yet another Soldier Beetle appeared in our garden. It showed up right after winter and it is therefor fair te assume it hibernated being an adult. Cantharis decipiens is a very common species all over Europe. The brown colour and the typical shape of the black spot on the neck shield are characteristic. It is a rather small species too, usually measuring 7 tot 9 mm. The adults appear as soon as the Hawthorn starts flowering. Later on the move to various other umbers.
