Glossy Pillar Cochlicopa lubrica
tThe Glossy Pillar will be some 0.5 centimeters high. Ik belongs to one of the many snails that all look alike and live in moss. It will not come as a suprise to you that they are called Moss Snails. The Glossy Pillar is probably the best known, for it is often found in gardens and parks. Empty shells are whitish. The snail itself is blackish brown, thus a habitated shell is dark. The animal usually doesn't feed on fresh plants, but prefers debris. In the Alps the Glossy Pillar can be found at altitudes of 2,500 to 2,600 metres. Common all over Europe, Northern Asia and Northern America.
