Sulphur Esperia Moth Esperia sulphurella

The Sulphur Esperia Moth is a beautiful, striking species measuring 13 to 16 mm only. Likes to sit or to fly around slowly in sunshine. Looks like this is a species active during daylight only. It hardly ever is attracted to light. Adults are seen in April and May mainly. The larvae live in dead wood, but are reported to eat fungi as well, especially those present on the wood they live in. The caterpillars live inside a cocoon and eat the wood from within the cocoon. A common species all over Britain except for Scotland. Also found in Northern America.

The common name of Sulphur Esperia Moth seems to be in use in American English only. I did not come across it on any British web site.
